Gloucester, MA— The Cape Ann Fresh Catch (CAFC) Community Supported Fishery (CSF) looks to rejuvenate one of America’s oldest industries.

The CAFC CSF is a collaboration between shore-side residents, businesses, and the local-fishing community. CAFC members give the fishing community financial support in advance of their season. In turn, the fishermen provide a regular volume of seafood during the harvesting season to shareholders. CSFs directly reconnect people to the ocean and our rich, fishing heritage. This is done by building an equitable relationship between fishermen, the shareholders who help sponsor them, and the oceans that sustain us.

Cape Ann Fresh Catch’s goal is to deliver the highest quality, seasonal, sustainably-caught, local seafood.

By fishing sustainably and offering our catch at a fixed price, CAFC seafood landings bolster our local economy, help the environment, and benefit the shareholder. By providing new markets for our local fishermen who are paid a higher than average market price for their catch, and through our distribution model, the consumer benefits by getting reasonably-priced, sustainably-caught, wicked-fresh seafood. Because the food supply chain is locally based, it lowers the carbon footprint of putting dinner on your table. It’s a win-win-win for our local economy, the environment, and consumers/shareholders.

Intentionally, this new, cooperative system also keeps fishermen and their boats safer.

Mother Nature happens. The waters of the Northwest Atlantic can be unforgiving. The safety of our fishing fleet is at the fore. If the conditions are unsafe for fishermen, we don’t land fish. In turn, this is why our shareholders are guaranteed the freshest, highest quality seafood shares. The seafood caught for CAFC CSF will never be old or frozen. CAFC seafood will come from fishermen who follow, safe, sustainable stewardship of our natural resources. The CAFC CSF program seeks to work in harmony with Mother Nature, and by doing so, land the freshest fish possible.
