Seafood Throwdowns is back at the Cape Ann Farmers Market this summer!
The SeaFood Throwdown that was cancelled due to weather is back on for next week at 4pm, Thursday, August 23 at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. This a a "re-re-match" which features last year's winner Julie Ann Geary of Classic Cooks Catering competing against 5 time winner Sugar Magnolias. Julie Ann will be assisted by The Happy Taco owner Justin Grandin. Lidia Sands will be cooking for Sugar Mags and joined by Sandro Carvalho. Owner Missy Hart will be cheering from the sidelines.
The Cape Ann Farmer's Market and the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance have for the past four years sponsored this cooking contest format to raise awareness about "Who Fishes Matters."
gimmesound.com's Peter Van Ness will be on the mike as emcee. Heather Fraelick, Marketing and Communications Specialist at Cape Ann Fresh Catch will be bring a "Boatload of Info" about our Community Supported Fishery and how you can join the upcoming Fall Semester. Cape Ann Fresh Catch brings the best quality fish plus the best deal for everyone at the table - fishermen included. Gloucester may be America's oldest seaport but we bring you the newest concept in fish marketing.
This time we will have 5 judges, Lara Lepionka of BackYard Growers and Beacon Street Farm as well as Hallie A. Baker, owner of Turtle Alley fame. The table will be rounded out by three Youth Judges: Lila, Becca, and Willa who will be keeping an eye out for some serious good eats.
Come see Steve Parkes fillet a whole fish. This is a "101-Beginners'" course for home cooks who would like to venture into buying a whole fish, but may have been intimidated by the process. Steve will break it down into simple steps for you. And once you see it, you will wonder why you haven't tried it before.
Cape Ann Farmer's Market opens at 3pm, the contest starts promptly at 4pm. And Niki Bogin, Market Manager wants you to know that the parking is always free and ample on Market days.
