Fish Friendly Printing
To ensure Sharing the Ocean didn't add to the burden of our oceans, communities and environment, and to support local businesses, we chose to work with two Maine-based businesses: Tilbury House Publishers and J.S. McCarthy Printers. We are thankful to both for their work and support.
We chose our printer because of their exceptional commitment to a better world which includes: using 100% wind power at their facilities; an aggressive recycling policy; employing non-hazardous vegetable based inks; using wood pulp from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council; and, adopting an effective toxic use reduction strategy.
These decisions have a direct impact on the marine ecosystem. In addition, this book is printed on elemental chlorine free paper thus reducing the amount of persistent and bio-accumulative chlorine-based toxins, especially dioxins. When such compounds enter our environment, they are known to adversely impact reproductive capabilities and overall health of marine animals and humans.
Sharing the Ocean is printed on Elemental Chlorine free paper because chlorine kills fish. Printed on 25% post-consumer recycled content paper with non-hazardous vegetable-based ink.
