Why Donate?

It can feel overwhelming to know how to actually have an impact and do your part to create a more just world. But when you donate to NAMA, you’re doing just that. By supporting our work, you’re not just fighting for a healthier ocean. You’re also standing in solidarity with rural and coastal communities who feel the pain of the corporate takeover of their local economies. You’re juicing up the battery that powers the fishermen-led movement to provide values-based sustainable seafood with dignity and reverence for the ocean.

GIVE NOW

And you’re moving the needle on creating policies to ensure the ocean won’t be bought or sold to sea-lord captains and private equity firms.

By supporting NAMA, you are helping to build a future where our oceans are protected, diverse and vibrant fishing communities are thriving, and we have a food system that can ensure all people - no matter their background - can afford food from the ocean. By supporting NAMA, you are standing up and walking side by side with the hundreds of thousands of people in our movement - fishermen, crew, shoreside workers, academics, scientists, activists, seafood dealers, students, allied food, economic and marine justice networks, and other engaged citizens just like you!

If you care about healthy oceans, healthy fisheries, and healthy fishing communities please join us in this fight and donate today.

We’re up against powerful financial interests that have been eyeing the wealth below the surface of the ocean for decades. But our movement of 500,000+ people is growing stronger every day.

Our Impact

We’ve been working at the intersection of marine conservation, food justice, and economic empowerment since our inception. And as we’ve grown we’ve embedded racial justice throughout all of our work. Thankfully, the non-profit world is beginning to acknowledge how interconnected our challenges all are. We’re proud that our intersectional approach is making waves and having a ripple effect across and within different spaces. Our efforts are being amplified and replicated across the world.

But don’t just take our word for it.

We were honored to receive the 2017 Food Sovereignty Award recognizing our work to bring seafood into the movements to change our food system to one with dignity, equity, and access at its core values.

In their Food Funder Compass report, the Center for High Impact Philanthropy named us amongst the high-impact organizations working at the intersection of the environment; vibrant communities; rights and equity; and health & hunger. The report is designed to help donors navigate funding opportunities and we're grateful and proud to have our work highlighted.

In 2015 we were the first recipient of the Bologna International Food and Sustainability Award by the City of Bologna.

NAMA does not currently solicit contributions from government sources. We do not solicit contributions from corporations except in the very rare instance when a company explicitly aligns with and demonstrates a commitment to our purpose and mission. To help us in that process, we confer with our friends at 1% For the Planet, and through our membership in the New Economy Coalition and the American Sustainable Business Council. We rely entirely on individual donations and foundation support. We choose the foundations we work with very carefully to ensure our policies are aligned. That means your support provides the backbone of our organization and is invaluable to our efforts.

*Note: we have recently undergone a name change. Some documents may still contain our old name, the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance.

    Our Funders

We are grateful to the individuals and foundations who have made our work possible since 1995.
