Ecotrust Canada and allies from across Canada are gathering to discuss community-based fisheries. In particular, the gathering will center around one of the greatest threats to Canada’s healthy fisheries and coastal and fishing communities; the increasing privatization of the resource. In their words, “this is the result of policies that enable shareholders and multinational companies to purchase, own and lease our local fishing rights.” NAMA’s Brett Tolley will be attending along with US fishermen to discuss how these same policies are impacting communities in the US.
