Lisa Fernandes

Development Director

Lisa is NAMA’s Development Director, steering fundraising and development efforts for both NAMA and its sister organization, the National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC).

A dynamic leader with over two decades of experience in the nonprofit, sustainability, and food system sectors, Lisa is recognized for her ability to drive results in values-driven projects through participatory methods that center equity and justice. Her expertise spans strategic planning and communications, project and team management, participatory engagement, network development, and sustainability, always emphasizing democratic and inclusive approaches.

Previously, Lisa served as Director of Marketing & Communications for the Institute for Nonprofit Practice and Communication Director for the Food Solutions New England network at the University of New Hampshire.

From 2005 to 2018, Lisa founded and led the Maine-based Resilience Hub as Executive Director, growing the organization to nearly 3,000 members and hosting over 800 events that strengthened community networks and relationships. She and the Resilience Hub community are featured in the 2015 documentary Inhabit: A Permaculture Perspective.

Lisa excels as a team builder, movement strategist, facilitator, speaker, network weaver, and administrator. She believes resilience-building, connectivity, and participatory approaches are essential for fostering vibrant futures and addressing contemporary challenges.

Her leadership extends to numerous boards and initiatives, including serving on the boards of the Eat Local Foods Coalition (ELFC) and the Permaculture Association of the Northeast (PAN), the Grant Review Committee of the Grassroots Fund, and the Advisory Panel for Green & Healthy Maine Homes magazine. She has also contributed to the Portland Mayor's Initiative for Healthy Sustainable Food Systems, MOFGA's Agricultural Services Committee, the Portland Food Coop, and Hour Exchange Portland. Additionally, she is a certified Master Food Preserver and Master Composter.
